June 2011

Welcome

We welcome you to the June issue of News At Eight, produced by Eight Marketing Co., LLC. Thank you for joining us.

 Major Art Exhibition Coming to Bucks County

A major art exhibition from one of Italy's most renowned museums will be making its only regional appearance at the Michener Art Museum this spring. More than half a million visitors came to see this exhibition in Spain.

Details of the exhibition will be announced to regional tourism and attractions at a preliminary partnership meeting to be held on June 28 at the Michener. The meeting will be co-hosted by Visit Bucks County and is open to all members.

While details are still hush hush, we can inform you that the exhibit will be:

The first time these works have been shown outside of Europe;

The only venue for this exhibition in the Boston - Washington tourism market;

The biggest exhibition ever staged at the Michener Art Museum.

For additional details and for information on participating please email us.

URGENT: Help Save PCA Funding for the Arts

Pennsylvania Council of the Arts grants is being threatened with a 70 percent cut in funding for its grants programs.  Eight Marketing has participated in the funding process with PCA and can personally attest to the broad range of organizations it impacts and whose funding makes programs possible for main stream, multicultural and underserved audiences throughout the Commonwealth.

You can help. If you have not already done so, please consider contacting your representatives to share your concerns. If you have been funded by PCA, please consider having your audiences participate as well.

On June 8, the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance is in Harrisburg to participate in a press conference to urge for reconsideration of these cuts. Follow GPCA on Facebook  or track the conversation on Twitter at hashtag #SavePCA.

Marketing Book of the Month: KaBOOM!

Kaboom Book CoverThe June Marketing Book of the Month was selected for our attractions and tourism clients that directly impact the lives of children through the power of play.

KaBOOM!: How One Man Built a Movement to Save Play is an empowering book based on one man's quest to build playgrounds for children and, in doing so, change their futures.

The book and movement were created by Darell Hammond, who was forever changed by reading a tragic Washington Post story about two children dying from playing in an abandoned car -- their only place to play.

In 15 years, KaBOOM has built and renovated thousands of playgrounds and has grown from a two person startup to an organization with 80 passionate employees and countless volunteers committed to making a difference for children across the country. Visit their website for more information.

Hammond will be appearing at the National Constitution Center Thursday, June 9, in an event co-sponsored by the Please Touch Museum. Free tickets are still available.

To check out the first chapter for free, click here and you'll be directed to Amazon's Kindle version.

Have a book you'd like to recommend as the next Marketing Book of the Month? We'd love to hear from you. Email Fran Walish or Alison Lambert with your suggestions.
