Stories of the Paul Robeson House to Launch October 20
Paul Robeson Stamp

Oral histories provide some of the richest stories of our history and times. On October 20th, a new oral history will be released: STORIES FROM THE PAUL ROBESON HOUSE: Lives Touched by a Renaissance Man. This book and CD explore the life of Paul Robeson through those who knew him or were touched by his legacy.

This dynamic project tells the story of Paul Robeson the singer, musican, activist and renaissance man -- just a few of his many personas. It also sheds light on his time in Philadelphia through those who knew him and knew the neighborhood at 4951 Walnut Street, now home to the Paul Robeson House.

The House is administered by West Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and hosts programming, tours, lectures and community activities. Tours are available by appointment.

The Alliance promotes and supports individual artists and advocates for community and economic empowerment through the arts. It produces, presents and promotes exhibitions as well as educational and community programs, and provides accessible learning experiences about Paul Robeson to people of all ages and cultures.

STORES FROM THE PAUL ROBESON HOUSE is funded by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through the Heritage Philadelphia Program with additional support from the Marketing Innovation Program. WHYY has served as a project partner, with interviews conducted by Elisabeth Perez- Luna, Executive Producer of Audio Content at WHYY.

Tech Tip of the Month -- Valuing Your "Friends"

There's been a lot of chatter lately and some concern on the ability to purchase friends for facebooks, tweeters for twitter and diggers for digg.

The Australian-based company, uSocial, has been selling these social media contacts much to the dismay of the websites. Whether or not this will continue is unclear at this writing. What is clear is that there has now been a starting price set per head, a useful feature in evaluating your social marketing programs or access value for sponsors. The prices are low, but again, these are for unknown users.

uSocial charges $727 for 5,000 facebook friends, $100 for 1,000 diggs and $87 for 1,000 twitter follows.

As of now, this service is legal but does it cross the line on truth in advertising or social marketing? You decide.
